Designing Appealing Writing Tasks: A Workshop for English Teachers

Writing is a big challenge to teachers and students alike. Traditionally, teachers often set a topic and leave the job to students. Teachers who try to help find the job daunting. The students, on their part, often fail to see the whole picture of the writing task and how it is relevant to them. They find instead pieces of demands to meet-often without much success. This workshop aims to help participants see (i) how to set an appealing writing task; (ii) how to help students come up with ideas; (iii) how to help students cope with vocabulary and grammar in a natural manner; and (iv) how to make the writing task manageable and satisfying by narrowing down its objectives and the requirements students have to meet. Hands-on activities and examples of good practice will be in place to help participants draw more benefits from the workshop.
