榮譽會員組 30周年匯演及展覽

2019年是榮譽會員組成30周年，為了慶祝這個極具意義的日子，本會於去年12月4日於佛教何南金中學，舉行了一個匯演及展覽，全部節目均由榮譽會員組課程的導師及學員擔綱，有動有靜。台上表演者十分起勁，節目精彩，台下掌聲雷動，氣氛非常熱烈。
元旦大遊行 香港人不放棄

從上年6月，到2020年1月，香港人一直堅持五大訴求。雖然遊行被警方宣布中止，但仍有超過103萬市民上街，參與民陣舉辦的元旦遊行，從維園遊行至遮打道。教協在銅鑼灣開設街站，為沿途市民打氣。會長馮偉華及立法會議員葉建源在街站上，呼籲會員參與1月3日的教育界集會，理事則派發傳單，向市民解釋教育局對教師的打壓，白色恐怖如何籠罩教育界，希望公眾跟教師同行，反對以言入罪，力保言論自由。
聖誕益智營2019

為期七天的「聖誕益智營2019」於12月31日圓滿結束！今年朱福華老師帶領小朋友們參觀了香港動植物公園、香港地質公園、馬鞍山村及烏溪沙沙灘等地方；讓小朋友們走到大自然，欣賞香港美麗景色之餘，透過戶外活動學習更多知識，好好善用聖誕假期！除小朋友上課外，聖誕益智營亦設有「師訓學生訓練及實習計劃」，讓師訓老師們實習如何帶領學生活動，為未來教學工作累積經驗！

Safeguard the Next Generation Let Our Conscience Speak The crisis caused by the amendment of the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance has been escalating for nearly three months. The government has been refusing to listen to the public and to respond to the five demands. The frustration has developed into clashes between the police and citizens. As of August 15th, 748 citizens have been arrested, among which are students and teachers. The education sector has become a target of the establishment, who attributes young people’s involvement in the protests to liberal education. In face of false accusations, the PTU devotes itself to defending the profession of education as well as to fulfilling its civic responsibility by speaking up against injustice. In the pursuit of justice, the PTU hopes its members will continue to join them in safeguarding the next generation and let their conscience speak. |

School commenced after an unusual summer, but the crisis caused by the amendment of the extradition bill shows no sign of mitigation in the fourth week of the new school year. Thanks to education professionals’ perseverance and commitment, students was able to enjoy a safe learning environment amidst the crisis. The PTU condemned the inappropriate pressure imposed on principals and teachers by external individuals’ patrols on the first day of school. All pressure imposed on the education sector must be immediately lifted to ensure room for professional education administration as well as peace on campus.
Education Bureau Issues Two Condemnation Letters. PTU Finds the Discipline Overly Harsh Two teachers were found publishing hate speech against police officers using their personal Facebook accounts. The Education Bureau recently issued two condemnation letters, warning that the Bureau might consider cancelling their teacher registration should it happen again. The PTU pointed out that, as inappropriate as the speech was, it was shared within the teachers’ private spheres and in no way affected their performance as professional teachers. The way the Education Bureau handled the matter was overly harsh. |

While teaching is in full swing on campus, the clashes between the police and citizens caused by the backlash of the extradition bill amendment have reached the fifth month. Clashes of late had become more serious and violence had been escalating. The PTU again called for underage students to stay away from clashes to protect themselves and avoid injuries. |

Get Our Kids Home Safe Interview with Lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen A serious clash between citizens and the police broke out at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in mid-November. Protesters occupied PolyU while the police laid siege to the campus. The incident continued for days and became a growing public concern. On November 18th, more than 50 principals entered the university together with lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen in an attempt to help students leave safely. In the 13 days that followed, more than a hundred principals, along with teachers and social workers, accompanied more than 300 secondary school students and about 50 volunteer medics as they left the campus. ‘The only motivation behind all our attempts was making sure all our kids made it home safe.’ ‘I could see, but I couldn’t help.’ Principal’s Persistence Moved Student Interview with Principal Ms Veronica Yau Among the debris, chaos, and marks of fire at PolyU, Yau watched as other principals left the campus with students in their arms. I just picked up some random dry food from the canteen. I helped contact people every day. I was either searching for students along with some alumni social workers, joining priests and pastors in talking to protesters, or discussing cases with volunteer lawyers….’ Perhaps this curious impulse was just love – love for PolyU and love for students. Dr Rodney Chu is the Vice-Chairman of the Polytechnic University Staff Association and Assistant Professor in Applied Social Sciences. He probably was the only teaching staff member who went to the university every day to see protesters during the PolyU siege.
